THE BIOPLASTIC COATING TO PROTECT METAL COMPONENTS

Pipes, flanges and joints: every part can be protected in every situation

Wearing of pipes and corrosion of surface elements is a serious problem in the marine industry, as damage caused by sea salt and other atmospheric agents can lead to cracks or the contamination of fluids being transported.

Coating is therefore a priority for the safety and durability of ship parts and structures that are constantly immersed in seawater.

Thanks to the unique properties of our Rilsan® coating, we can provide a solution to the problems encountered in shipping, the oil industry, the transport/conservation of drinking water and foodstuffs, and the protection of telecommunication cables.

While these are very different fields, they are united by the same daily problems.

HERE ARE THE MOST COMMON SITUATIONS
WHICH OUR CUSTOMERS CONTACT US ABOUT

Rust, oxidation and electrochemical corrosion

In situations where rust could threaten the strength and durability of metal components, our bioplastic can prevent it forming and create a barrier that preserves the metal’s structural integrity even in the most adverse conditions.

In this way, the water only comes into contact with the impermeable layer of Rilsan®, providing protection which significantly prolongs the life of the component, thereby reducing maintenance costs and downtime, as well as removing the need to replace the item.

Threats to the safety of drinking water and food transport systems

Protecting the metal surfaces of drinking water and food transport systems is essential to preserve their cleanliness and avoid dangerous contamination.

Our bioplastic coating is the ideal solution for metal components used in drinking water or food transportation and storage processes, where chemicals are used to guarantee quality.

The certifications we have gained for these processes are testament to the guarantee we offer.

Fouling and limescale formation

In the holds of ships, where micro-particles of salt water can cause significant problems for the structural integrity of the pipes, applying Rilsan® results in a smooth surface that actively hinders the formation of limescale and other scale deposits.

Impact, stress, abrasion and wear

Metal surfaces used in the nautical sector require strong protection against all the elements that can lead to severe damage, wear, friction and scaling to the outermost layer.

These include sand, shells, gravel, stones, coral, barnacles or granite fragments that hit the surfaces during the ship’s various manoeuvres, but also damage from parasites, algae, crustaceans and other molluscs that attach themselves to the outer layer and, over time, weaken the underlying metal.

This is a truly costly problem that often leads to extraordinary maintenance cycles or emergency repairs and replacements. Although the extensive use of anti-algae products is one possible method of prevention, it is not a long-term solution and only a coating such as ours can prevent damage to pipes and parts.

Chemical Agents and Hazardous Substances

Aggressive chemicals pose a significant threat to the structural integrity of metal surfaces. The only long-lasting defence in terms of years is an inert bioplastic coating that prevents contact between reagents and the surface, thus preserving the qualities of the metal. With its ability to resist erosion, Rilsan® is the ideal choice for hazardous or risky situations, contributing significantly to the safety of the pipe or components (flanges, joints, etc.) to which it is applied.

The bioplastic in Rilsan® fuses to metal at a temperature of around 200° and acts as a protective sheath after it dries.

Reducing friction and increasing fluid flow

Our bioplastic coating is not only useful for surface protection but also in improving mechanical properties.

Rilsan® reduces friction by improving fluid flow, contributing to the more efficient transportation of liquids through pipes and industrial equipment.
